Comms Print - Multilingual Typesetting and Printing Services

Our projects range from small, single language documents, through to the most complex projects involving many different languages with several sizes of print ready output. We can accept almost any language, including Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Urdu.

At Comms Multilingual, we have a studio that is equipped with “state of the art” Macs and PCs with all the latest software. Added to that, we have the experience to deal with even the most complex typesetting and printing requirements, no matter what the language or the complexity of the script.

We can handle any level of production, from a single business card through to multifaceted projects involving many languages.

The software that we use includes Quark XPress, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, InPage, Pagemaker and Freehand, on both Mac and PC platforms. We also work with all the Microsoft software including Office, Publisher and Front Page.

Here are a few tips in case you are planning on designing a document for printing, which will later need to be translated and typeset in other languages.

  1. When designing a document that you ultimately want to translate and typeset in other languages, it is a good idea to bear in mind, that the non-English languages can, on average, take up to 30% more space than the equivalent English text.
  2. If enough space has not been left within the document, the person who is doing the foreign language typesetting may have to reduce the font size, or change the character and line spacing.
  3. It may also be necessary to add new pages as a result, because the text has become longer and now flows differently. It is even possible that some of the images will have to be repositioned and that the entire document will end up looking quite different.
  4. Some languages, such as the right to left ones of Arabic, Hebrew and Urdu, and also others like Bengali, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, have complex font requirements. They sometimes require specialised software such as InDesign in order to handle them, but they will always be returned to you in the file format that you request.
  5. We always provide the final data in a format that can be easily produced by your own printers, with no requirement for special fonts or software.
  6. It may be a good idea to produce a style sheet for the document, especially if it will be translated and typeset in more than one language. This helps to maintain the consistency of the "look" and is something that we will be very happy to help you with.

Note that we always provide the final typeset data in a format that can be easily produced by your own printers, with no requirement for special fonts or software.
